My name is Amber. I purchased Zeke, my first dog, in late July of 2007. I had always just attempted to feed a premium kibble. Raw feeding was "overly complicated, expensive, and just impossible" in my mind. In early 2009, Luther was purchased from a breeder with my boyfriend.

It was then that I began to focus more on their health. The kibble was just not cutting it with Zeke. He had extremely dry skin, he did not like to eat ANY of it, and meal times were just a pain. He was on the skinny side, and I wanted to make a change.

That was when I discovered Raw Feeding. It had always been beyond my reach, something I warned people against, as I believed it was a hard to feed diet with a complicated recipe.

After some research, I realized how wrong I was.

I have done a lot of research in to RAW feeding, but I am still no expert on the subject. The links section is a great place to find other websites and people with knowledge on the subject. The best thing you can do is research. This website displays what I have come to believe through my research. But there are many variations, and you are the best person to determine what works for you.

I decided to do a Prey Model raw diet. Prey Model is just that, it models the prey animal that wolves in the wild would eat. Mainly large meaty bones supplemented with some organ meat. It is exactly what a dog was meant to eat and digest.

There is also a very common BARF diet. I didn't really look into the barf diet, because it doesn’t seem natural to me. There are many people who swear by it, and it is a personal choice. The BARF diet supplements the raw diet with veggies, and ground bones/meat. I see no need to involve veggies in my dog's diet because they are almost indigestible and not a natural food source, but again, that is a personal choice.
